Quentin the Vampire

These are my final images of Quentin. As I chose the words "save us" referring to the broken relationship between Claudia and Quentin I decided to make this my main focus in the pictures rather than purely focusing on the fact that Quentin is a Vampire which I had planned to do previously. My initial thoughts were to shoot the pictures in a graveyard and design make up which reflected a stereotypical Vampire with a nasty face and lots of blood, However, after considering the fact that the last week has been extremely sunny, and sunlight of course kills vampires, not only this but sunshine is most often than not associated with happiness and cheerful characters, neither of the characters I have chosen are particularly happy so I decided on an indoor shoot. To add to this I wanted the pictures yo reflect the words I had chosen as well as the mood and thoughts connected with the words. Because of this I decided to use an indoor location which looks like it could be Claudia's apartment.
The brief describes how Claudia is insecure and jealous, which causes her to become fixated on thoughts of Quentin betraying her. When Claudia has these thoughts she imprisons him in her flat because in her mind that will stop him wondering off with or meeting anyone else. I wanted to use this idea of the couple falling out to create my pictures. Quentin adores Claudia and whilst he does sometimes irritate her, he wants the relationship to work out. Therefore he would be the ones saying "save us" which is why I wanted my model to have a sad, serious expression as though he is deep in thought. I also styled Quentin to show the side of him that does make an effort hence why he is wearing a suit, this Quentin is trying to fix the problems Claudia has created in her mind and trying to win her back.
The reason I decided not to go all out with the scary Vampire make up is because I thought this would take away from the mood of the story and mask my models facial expressions.
For this make up look I used my Kryolan foundation pallete in the lightest shade as my model already had fairly  fair skin but I wanted it to be just a shade lighter to create a washed out look as vampires are the living dead. The make up did in real life look quite pale although this hasn't shown so well on the camera pictures, therefore if I was to do this again I would use some white supra colour in with the foundation for an extra light base. I also applied the base to the lips also to create a pale dead look, as though the life and colour has been drained from his face.
When considering the had pose for the shoot I did not want to do a straightforward 3 quater length fave on shot as I thought this would be a bit boring and difficult to describe the mood of my character therefore I opted to pose my character sitting down yet at an angle and from a distance where 3 quaters or his body would still be in the picture but would be more interesting than just standing staring at the camera.
The eye make up around the models eyes is a mix of a shimmery grey with a hint of green in it from an eyeshadow pallete I bought in super drug. I liked the idea of a slight shimmer only around the eyes as vampires are supernatural creatures and this gave the make up a magical look. The other colour I used was the black eyeshadow from my Kryolan pallete, I used this merely to create darkness and shadow around the eye socket. In addition to this I applied liquid liner underneath the eyes and used the black kryolan shadow mixed with a little water to create a smug ed look as though he had been crying. Finally I used a black mascara to darken the eyes further.

My model has normal to dry skin (usually on the cheeks) and does not follow a day to day skin routine other than washing face with shower gel whilst in the shower. I have recommended moisturising to help with dry areas. model does not complain of any skin problems.

Below is my idea for Quentin's hair as my model has very short hair there is little I could do to really style it. Final Claudia face chart

This is my final idea for had character of Claudia she is again based on existing female  horror lead characters such as Ginger from the movie Ginger Snaps, Mandy from the movie All The Boys Love Many Lane and Buff herself from my Chosen T.V series Buff The Vampire Slayer. This designs shows Claudia's more timid, shy, natural yet feminine side with most of the vivid colours being used only on her cheeks and lips with a rosy pink lipstick and shimmery pink blush.
All of the above characters whilst being horror characters are extremely attractive and pretty which is what this Claudia is all about. This design masks her crazy, jealous, and unpredictable side. And anyone coming know contact with her would probably assume her hobbies consisted of shopping and socialising instead of seeing the psychotic, lonely and odd young woman that she is who's only real hobby I'd watching gory and disturbing horror films. This look is based on the idea that make up is used as a mask and a form of concealing ones true identity.

More ideas for Quentin

These are a few more ideas for the character of Quentin.
The first is based on the idea of romanticism of vampires a theme very popular in much of today's fiction, television and film vampires such as twilight and the vampire diaries. This design includes the signature pale skin, along with dark eyes for a slightly gothic feel. In addition to this I feel that the rare eye make up draws attention to the eyes giving them a hypnotic and seductive allure. Although fairly simple this idea remains My favourite as I want my Quentin to be likeable, and fairly human looking. I feel that if my character was a scary, evil looking vampire it would be hard to link him with the words "save us" this Quentin is a gentleman, he is attractive looking, romantic and sensitive in nature he is the Quentin that Claudia sees when she she is happy. He values their relationship and is always distraught after one of her jealous, angry episodes.
This is my second design and is the complete opposite of my idea above I created this design purely to play with the idea of blood and gore. This image was inspired by the angry violent vampires of the Buff series which have deepest yellow eyes and deeply wrinkled faces giving them a demonic and animal like appearance. I have included wrinkles in the image but have also kept the skin pale and deathly looking which the Buffy vampires are not. In the Buff series the vampires retain their tanned human like skin tones once transformed into their vampire faces. Another feature of this design is the crystal clear blue eyes something  I would like as I feel they are beautiful yet deceptive looking. To create these eyes on my model I would use clear blue contacts. This idea although fun to create does not fit entirely with the character of Quentin I want to portray ad I want to show his sensitive and thoughtful side.
This final design of Quentin was almost purely created for the purpose of having a fourth design to meet the brief criteria as I already had my heart set on using my second design as it fitted both the story and mood behind my chosen words. However I did use this as an opportunity to experiment using a slightly darker base whilst keeping the other make up features very similar to my chosen design. Again I have used dark eyeshadow and liner to create dark mysterious eyes and pale foundation to create pale deathly lips.

3rd mood board for Quentin Claudia and Mrs Laderman

This mood board displays my inspiration and ideas for the Claudia Quentin/Mrs Laderman project. I wanted to keep my ideas dark and gloomy with statement fashion looks for one character and keep the other plainer simpler and more modern and normal looking. The character I chose to Create were Claudia  and Quentin as I thought they had a good story I could work with to create and develop my make up and hair ideas.
